> Go to Control Panel
> Go to System
> Go to Hardware tab
> Go to Device Manager
> Click on [+] on Computer
> Right Click on displayed ACPI power saving profile
> Choose 'Update Driver'
> Choose 'Install from Specific Location'
> Choose 'Don't search I will determine location'
> Choose 'Standard PC'
> ... then confirm.
The system will then need to restart, so let it do so. Then it will discover every chip that it has and will load a new driver for it, which it will have on board. This process may take some time and you may experience waves of paranoia, but press on. then a final restart should do it.
When I re-ran DriverTest.exe the it was as if a miracle had been performed.

I've heard a lot of negative reports about using laptops and expecting any type of performance due to the nature of a laptop's power management system.

I have worked with this laptop more, making several parts and I have noticed that network activity of any kind is not compatible when I run Mach 3.
So I disable all network devices, reboot and then Mach 3 runs smoothly and uninterrupted, as expected...

I'm running similarly on a Thinkpad T42. Shut off all power management options in BIOS, etc. I also found the same with having Wifi enabled. Caused audible jitter in the step signals. Disable the adapter and all is good.

Also found if the laptop got unplugged and plugged back in to power, the skipping came back.
