74LS04 entegresi low seviyeli cikis veren bir tampon(buffer) inverter kapisidir. bu entegrenin 74HS04 olani da var bu da high seviyeli ciks veren kapidir. yani girise lojik 1 verdiginde cikis 0(sifir) olur 0 verirsen 1 olur. ve verdigin lojik seviyenin akimi artirmak istersn bu entegre kullanabilinir.
Bu tip entegrelerde LS,HCS gibi harfler sadece çıkış akımını değil, kullanılan yarıiletken teknolojisini, dolayısıyla hızı (bazılarında da çalışma voltajını) belirtir.
